Business profile

Updated

MarketAxess operates electronic platforms where institutional investors and broker-dealers trade bonds and other financial instruments. Founded in 2000 and headquartered in New York City, it connects clients across fixed-income markets, including corporate, government and municipal bonds. It also offers tools for trading equities, foreign exchange, exchange-traded funds and derivatives.

A client can request competing prices from selected dealers and choose a response. Alternatively, Open Trading lets participants seek prices from a broader network anonymously. MarketAxess acts as an intermediary between the buyer and seller in matching Open Trading transactions; in its disclosed dealer-quote workflow, the two clients trade and settle directly with each other.
