Business profile

Updated

Black Hills Corporation is a U.S. utility company that supplies electricity and natural gas to homes, businesses and other customers. Founded in 1941 and headquartered in Rapid City, South Dakota, it is led by President and Chief Executive Officer Linden R. Evans. Its utility operations generally use the Black Hills Energy name.

The company has two operating segments. Electric Utilities generates electricity and moves it over transmission and distribution lines to customers. It also buys power from other providers and sells excess electricity to utilities and marketing companies. Gas Utilities obtains natural gas and transports and distributes it through pipelines to customers. It also sells available pipeline capacity and gas to other utilities and marketers.

Total pay is as the Summary Compensation Table states it; actually paid revalues the year’s share awards at its end, as the SEC’s pay-versus-performance rule asks. $100 invested is what $100 in the company’s shares at the start of the earliest year shown was worth at each year’s end. Ownership is the proxy’s own table: the directors and officers as a group, and every holder of 5% or more. Read the proxy statement
