Latest quarter
Yum China reported Q2 FY2026 revenue of $3.1 billion, 2.65% above the consensus. Adjusted earnings per share were $0.70, above the $0.69 consensus estimate.
Revenue rose 12.6% from $2.8 billion a year earlier. The company’s filing attributed growth excluding foreign exchange effects primarily to a 5% contribution from net new units and 1% same-store sales growth. Yum China said accelerated franchise openings also increased franchise fees and income.
The filing said higher revenue, streamlined operations and favorable commodity prices helped operating profit, partly offset by higher delivery costs and value-for-money offerings. Operating margin was 11.1%, compared with 10.9% a year earlier, while gross margin rose to 22.2% from 21.4%.
Diluted earnings per share were $0.70, compared with $0.58 a year earlier. Yum China reported free cash flow of $299.0 million, compared with $290.0 million in Q2 FY2025.

What management said on the call
CEO Joey Wat said consumers were still willing to spend on coffee, light meals and innovative products. In response to an analyst’s question about market trends, she said pricing was showing signs of stabilization and competition between delivery platforms was becoming more rational. Wat also said July was broadly in line with the company’s expectations, despite temporary regional effects from extreme weather.
CFO Adrian Ding said KFC’s Q2 same-store transactions grew 4%, offsetting a 3% decline in average ticket size. He attributed the lower ticket mainly to smaller orders from new customer segments and locations, including K-Coffee and K-Pro. At Pizza Hut, Ding said same-store transactions grew 13%, while average ticket declined 11%, driven mainly by value offerings and smaller orders.
Ding said delivery rose from 45% of sales in the prior-year quarter to 54%, increasing rider costs. He said improvements in occupancy and other costs offset higher food and labor costs, leaving restaurant margin at 16.1%, in line with a year earlier. Asked about Pizza Hut’s margins, he said he expected greater second-half expansion than in the first half as the year-on-year increase in delivery mix becomes less pronounced.
Wat said Pizza Hut’s Burger Bar had expanded to more than 200 locations and was producing incremental sales for its parent stores. Asked about overlap with KFC and pizza, she said the burgers were differentiated from KFC’s offering and that adding the category brought incremental sales. Ding said capital expenditure for K-Coffee Cafe and K-Pro modules had fallen by around half from earlier modules last year.
For Q3, Ding expected restaurant margin to be stable to slightly positive year over year before the Pizza Hut deal, and operating margin to be roughly in line with the prior year. Asked about financing the deal, he said Yum China expected an approximately $1.2 billion bridge loan and was still studying longer-term options.
Guidance
Wat said Yum China now expects Pizza Hut net new openings to exceed 800 per year in 2027 and 2028, up from its original target of over 600. She said the initial assessment followed the planned acquisition of the Pizza Hut brand in mainland China.
For K-Pro, Wat said the company now expects around 800 locations by year-end, after previously raising its target from 400 to 600 locations.
