Rambus, Inc. (RMBS) Earnings & Analysis

Updated · Covers results through Q3 FY2026 · Earnings call · How this is made

Latest quarter

Rambus reported Q3 FY2026 revenue of $218.3 million, above the $213.0 million consensus and up from $178.5 million a year earlier. Adjusted earnings per share were $0.84, compared with the $0.78 consensus; diluted earnings per share were $0.69, up from $0.44 a year earlier.

In its filing, Rambus attributed the revenue increase to greater demand for memory interface chips, growth in silicon IP and higher royalties. The company said product revenue rose with higher chip sales and contributions from new products, while the timing and structure of licensing agreements and renewals drove the increase in royalties.

Rambus reported gross margin of 78.3%, compared with 79.5% a year earlier, while operating margin rose to 38.3% from 35.4%. Free cash flow was $95.9 million, up from $82.5 million. CFO Sumeet Gagneja said Rambus completed a $100 million accelerated share repurchase during the quarter.

What management said on the call

CEO Luc Seraphin said demand across multiple generations of memory interface chips supported Rambus’s fourth-quarter product outlook. He attributed the anticipated growth to rising market demand and product launches, with newer generations of register clock drivers accounting for the bulk of the increase. Seraphin also said customers were ordering earlier, giving Rambus better visibility into its backlog.

Asked about supply, Seraphin said supplier lead times were increasing, but Rambus had built inventory and had not increased lead times to its own customers. He said the company was working with supply-chain partners to meet demand into 2027, when he expects supply to remain tight. CFO Sumeet Gagneja said Rambus planned to increase inventory again in the fourth quarter.

On margins, Gagneja said supply-chain input costs were pushing product gross margin toward the lower end of its historical 60% to 63% range. He said internal cost savings had helped offset those costs and that Rambus expected the margin to remain within that range in the near term. Seraphin also described customers choosing lower-capacity memory modules because of memory economics, even as the number of modules grew.

Asked about the MRDIMM ramp, Seraphin said adoption would be shallower than for other product generations because platforms were not launching at the same time. On the newer SOCAM2 product, he declined to quantify exact content before the final specification is released, although he said power-management content would increase from the earlier generation.

Seraphin said Rambus had invested in and partnered with ChipAgents to use AI-native design tools in chip and IP development. He said Rambus was engaging earlier with silicon IP customers on complex designs and could expand that portfolio organically or through acquisitions.

Guidance

CEO Luc Seraphin said Rambus expects a stronger fourth quarter, citing demand across multiple generations of its memory chips. CFO Sumeet Gagneja said the outlook reflects the company’s best estimates and actual results could differ materially.
