Business profile

Updated

Royal Gold acquires and manages interests in mining projects, principally precious metal streams and royalties. Rather than operating mines, it provides money to mining companies or buys existing interests. In return, it obtains rights tied to the metal those mines produce or the revenue they generate.

A stream is an agreement under which Royal Gold makes an upfront payment for the right to buy some of a mine’s future metal production at a contractually specified price. It can then sell that metal. A royalty gives Royal Gold a right to a share of production or revenue, sometimes after specified costs are deducted. The company holds interests in projects that are producing, being developed or being explored.
