What management said on the call

Chief Executive Officer Clay Gaspar said Devon’s merger with Coterra closed on May 7 and that the company had identified more than 350 synergy initiatives toward its target of at least $1 billion of annual synergies by year-end 2027. Gaspar said the initiatives cover capital optimization, operating margins and corporate costs, including drilling and completion costs, combined infrastructure, GP&T and revenue deductions, and redundancies.

Gaspar said Devon delivered oil production above the midpoint of its quarterly guidance and total production at the top end of guidance, while capital spending came below guidance. Chief Financial Officer Shane Young said total operating costs, including GP&T, were below the midpoint of guidance and that the company’s reinvestment rate was 43% of cash flow. Young said Devon returned more than $1 billion during the quarter through dividends, buybacks and debt reduction, and that $7.8 billion remained under the repurchase authorization.

On pricing, the filing said higher WTI and Mont Belvieu index prices lifted unhedged oil and NGL prices, while lower Henry Hub prices and wider Permian regional differentials reduced unhedged gas prices. In the Q&A, Young said the company had seen an impact from the Kinder Morgan expansion and would continue to consider additional egress, financial hedging and in-basin opportunities; he also said LNG and power development could create greater Gulf Coast pricing volatility over time.

Analysts asked Gaspar about the portfolio review and how asset rationalization could affect the 2027 plan. Gaspar said Devon evaluates assets based on their value to the company, market value, inventory, capital efficiency and strategic fit with a Permian-centric business; he said the company would not comment on specific rumors. Gaspar said Devon expected an update on the review in the fall and would provide initial 2027 views in November.

Guidance

Young said Devon tightened its full-year 2026 oil-production range to 495,000 to 505,000 barrels per day and expects total volumes of roughly 1.4 million barrels of oil equivalent per day, with total capital of $4.8 to $5 billion. For Q3 FY2026, Devon expects oil production of 550,000 to 560,000 barrels per day, total production of 1,660,000 to 1,690,000 Boe per day, and capital spending of $1.4 billion to $1.5 billion. Young said fourth-quarter oil production is expected to be similar to or higher than third-quarter levels.
