What management said on the call
On the first-quarter call, CFO Sarah Rubenstein said wind resource and availability had fallen below budget in some regions, with “the most meaningful impact coming from Alta.” She said an enhancement program at Alta had affected turbine availability and was intended to return the units to their historical availability levels of 95%+ in 2026.
CEO Craig Cornelius said power demand associated with co-located digital infrastructure was a potential growth opportunity. He said Clearway had purchased equipment for the first phase of generation at its Wyoming complex, targeting first load served as soon as 2028, and had established a design and delivery partnership with Quanta and Blattner across its development pipeline.
Cornelius said the company had executed a previously awarded power purchase agreement with a hyperscaler for its Texas wind fleet and expected to execute two additional awarded agreements later in the year. He said the contracts extend contracted terms across three operating assets and improve visibility into future revenue and cash flow.
On investment, Cornelius said Clearway expected to deploy $3 billion of corporate capital from 2026 to 2029. He said contracts had been signed or awarded for over 70% of the megawatts planned for the 2028 commercial-operation vintage, while priority projects in the 2029 pipeline totaled over 4 GW.
In response to questions about digital infrastructure, Cornelius said investment structures would vary by complex and customer. He said Clearway aimed to present opportunities with a “similar risk profile, a similar tenor, a similar CAFD yield” to its grid-tied projects. Addressing financing and tax-credit eligibility, he said projects being completed did not face foreign-entity-of-concern requirements because of when they were safe harbored, and that their equipment would comply anyway.
Rubenstein said the approved share-class simplification would move Clearway to one publicly traded security. She said retained cash flow and corporate debt remained part of the growth-funding strategy, with equity issuance also available when accretive.
Guidance
Cornelius said Clearway was increasing its focus toward the top end or better of its existing 2030 CAFD per-share target range of $2.9 to $3.1. He also said the company planned to advance a 2031 growth target as part of its third-quarter update, targeting the high end of 5% to 8% annual growth from the midpoint of the 2030 target.
