Revvity Inc. (RVTY) Business Profile

Updated · Covers results through FY2025 · How this is made

What it does

Revvity provides tools and services used in medical research and diagnostic testing. Its Life Sciences business helps researchers study diseases and develop treatments; its Diagnostics business supplies products and services for screening and testing. Revvity is headquartered in Waltham, Massachusetts, and Prahlad Singh is its president and chief executive officer.

For researchers, the company sells laboratory instruments, chemical and biological reagents, software and services. These products support work on cells, genes and proteins, including drug discovery, laboratory imaging and analysis of research data. Customers include pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, contract research organizations, universities and government institutions.

For healthcare providers and laboratories, Revvity offers instruments, testing kits and software used in areas including reproductive health and infectious diseases. Its products help laboratories screen expectant mothers and newborns, while its testing services include genetic analysis. The company also supplies immunodiagnostic products, which use components of the immune system to help detect conditions such as tuberculosis.

The two businesses have related capabilities. For example, Revvity supplies equipment and reagents for preparing and analyzing genetic material, as well as software for managing the resulting data. Some offerings combine an instrument with the consumables and software used to run a laboratory workflow. Revvity markets its products and services in more than 160 countries.

How it makes money

Revvity generates revenue by selling research and diagnostic products, software and services through its Life Sciences and Diagnostics segments. Fiscal year 2025 revenue was $2,856.1 million; Q3 2026 pro forma revenue was $710 million, excluding the China immunodiagnostics business Revvity plans to divest.

Life Sciences sells laboratory instruments alongside reagents and other supplies used in experiments. Its products include imaging systems, plate readers and automated liquid handlers, as well as antibodies, assay kits and cell-analysis reagents. Some of these reagents are designed to be paired with Revvity instruments or microplates. The segment also supplies research services and licenses technology for applications such as gene editing and biotherapeutics development.

Its Signals software products help scientists record experiments, analyze images and manage research data. The portfolio includes a cloud-based electronic lab notebook and a software-as-a-service platform for clinical data. Revvity said Signals software growth in Q3 2026 was driven by contract renewals as well as growth in the business.

Diagnostics sells instruments, test kits, reagents and software to laboratories and healthcare providers. Reproductive health offerings include prenatal and newborn screening products and genetic testing services. Immunodiagnostics includes tests and laboratory systems for infectious diseases, autoimmune conditions and other applications. The company also provides cord blood banking services.

Consumables such as reagents and test kits are used in laboratory workflows alongside equipment and software. Revenue also comes from services and technology licensing. Revvity competes on price as well as service, technology, availability and other factors; it does not disclose a single pricing model for the portfolio.

Customers and how it sells

Revvity serves pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, contract research organizations, academic and government institutions, hospitals, medical laboratories and clinicians. Research customers use its products to investigate diseases and develop treatments. Diagnostic laboratories use its instruments, reagents and software to screen for genetic abnormalities and other conditions.

The company markets products and services in more than 160 countries. Its businesses primarily sell through specialized sales forces; where Revvity has no sales and service presence, it uses distributors. As of December 28, 2025, it employed approximately 2,000 sales and service representatives operating in approximately 40 countries.

Revvity Omics has testing laboratories in the United States, India, China and the United Kingdom. The company also works with Genomics England on genomic sequencing. Revvity said it was negotiating to extend that partnership and expand it into other areas.

In Q3 2026, Revvity said Europe and the Americas each grew double digits, while Asia-Pacific declined in the low single digits. The company attributed the regional decline to reproductive health pressures offsetting double-digit life sciences growth in China. It also said China’s birth rates continued to be challenging for its reproductive health business.

Suppliers and costs

Revvity uses a variety of raw materials, components and supplies, generally obtained from domestic and foreign sources. It generally has multi-year supplier contracts without minimum purchase requirements. For some critical materials and components, however, it has qualified only a limited number of suppliers or a single supplier. The company sometimes purchases extra quantities of these materials in anticipation of manufacturing needs and believes it could qualify alternatives with sufficient lead time.

Its cost of revenue includes the cost of producing and supplying products. Cost of revenue was $1,291.7 million in fiscal year 2025. Tariffs enacted and implemented during that year increased cost of revenue by approximately $25 million; Revvity said the majority of the impact affected products manufactured in Europe and sold in the United States. Its response included manufacturing changes, supplier collaboration and selective price adjustments.

Other expenses include sales and administration, research and development, and amortization of intangible assets. Research and development expenses were $215.8 million in fiscal year 2025, reflecting, among other factors, investment in new product development. Revvity also incurred restructuring costs associated with workforce reductions and facility consolidations.

From revenue to operating income, FY2025
  1. Revenue$2.9B
  2. Cost of revenue−$1.3B
  3. Research and development−$215.8M
  4. Selling, general and administrative−$991.9M
  5. Operating income$356.6M

Competitive position

Revvity faces competition from multinational suppliers with broad product ranges and from smaller firms focused on particular products or markets. Some competitors have more financial and other resources, and some specialized firms have established market positions. Revvity competes on service, price, innovation, operational efficiency, product differentiation, availability, quality and reliability. It expects consolidation to increase the proportion of large competitors.

No competing company is named in the available business descriptions or company facts. Revvity has patents, patent applications, trademarks, licensed intellectual property, trade secrets and unpatented know-how. It considers proprietary rights important to both segments, but does not believe the loss of any one patent or other proprietary right would materially harm its overall business or either segment.

Our reading: Intellectual property and technical know-how provide some protection, but the company’s own assessment that no single right is material limits the evidence for dependence on an individual patent. Our reading: Its combination of instruments, reagents and software may help it serve connected laboratory workflows, although the available evidence does not establish how difficult it is for customers to switch suppliers. Its sales and service staff and distributors support its reach across markets.

Growth opportunities

Revvity’s strategy includes developing products internally, collaborating with third parties and adding technologies through acquisitions and licensing. It also plans to use artificial intelligence in its offerings and operations. Research and development spans both research tools and diagnostic testing.

In Q3 2026, the company said demand from pharmaceutical and biotechnology customers continued to improve and that incremental AI-related demand was beginning to extend beyond high-content screening. Its backlog for those screening instruments increased, and Revvity said it had expanded capacity to support demand. It also launched Signals Labgistics, software designed to coordinate scientific workflows across people, systems and stages of development.

In diagnostics, Revvity launched a certified GSP T1D triplex kit in Europe for early detection of type 1 diabetes. The company is also developing a broader type 1 diabetes assay with Sanofi. It said the new test uses an existing screening platform and extends its work into early childhood screening.

For Q3 2026, Revvity reported 7% pro forma organic growth, excluding the China immunodiagnostics business it plans to divest. It expects approximately 5% pro forma organic growth for the full year. The company said the recent acquisition of ACD Labs contributed approximately 1% to growth in the quarter.

Structural risks

  • Customer demand and funding: Weaker economic conditions, uncertainty over government or industrial funding, or unfavorable regulatory changes could affect demand in the markets Revvity serves. Competitive pressure can also lead to lower selling prices.
  • China diagnostics: China diagnostic testing policy changes contributed to an unfavorable product mix in fiscal year 2025. Revvity has agreed to divest its China immunodiagnostics business and expects the transaction to close by the end of 2027; the business reduced Q3 2026 diagnostics adjusted operating margin by 160 basis points.
  • Supply and tariffs: Some critical materials and components have only limited or single qualified sources. Tariffs increased fiscal year 2025 costs, particularly for products manufactured in Europe and sold in the United States.
  • Regulation and liability: Failure to comply with product and healthcare regulations can lead to recalls, operating restrictions, penalties or inability to sell products. Manufacturing and selling products and services can also expose Revvity to liability claims.
  • Technology and competition: Revvity must develop reliable technologies, obtain approvals, commercialize products and differentiate them from competitors. It may not be able to protect its intellectual property adequately.

Bottom line

Our reading

Our reading: Revvity combines research tools and diagnostic products, with instruments, consumables and software serving related laboratory workflows. [item1] Its growth depends on research and healthcare demand as well as new products, while tariffs, diagnostic policy changes and limited-source supplies can pressure results. [item1] [item7] Improving customer demand and the planned China divestiture are important developments, but the latter has not yet closed. [call_prepared] [facts]
