OneMain reported third-quarter revenue of $1.7 billion, up from $1.6 billion a year earlier. Revenue as counted by the consensus was $1.1 billion, beating the consensus by 1.51%; both the reported figure and estimate rounded to $1.1 billion. Adjusted earnings per share of $1.51 missed the $1.56 consensus estimate.
The company reported diluted earnings per share of $1.60, down from $1.67 a year earlier. OneMain’s filing attributed higher interest income to growth in average net receivables, while its provision for finance receivable losses increased as receivables grew and net charge-offs rose.
The company reported that operating margin fell to 13.7% from 16.9%, while gross margin rose to 79.7% from 79.4%. Free cash flow was $805.0 million, compared with $825.0 million a year earlier. CFO Jeannette Osterhout said credit card account growth and higher servicing fees contributed to an increase in other revenue.

What management said on the call
CEO Douglas Shulman said personal-loan innovations, including debt consolidation and a home fixture-secured offering, contributed to originations. In response to a question about whether growth reflected a structural market shift, he said OneMain was gaining market share while maintaining its credit standards. Shulman added that customers shared bank data for about 40% of originations, up from 30% a year earlier, making the application process easier than verifying multiple pay stubs.
CFO Jeannette Osterhout said auto-finance originations rose 26% year over year as OneMain expanded its dealer network and deepened dealer relationships. She said credit card unit originations rose 84% and purchase volume increased 82%, helped by enhancements to the card offering. Shulman said OneMain had broadened card options for different credit segments and refined its marketing to reach lower-risk customers more likely to use their credit lines.
On credit, Osterhout said the consumer-loan delinquency rate for accounts 30 to 89 days past due was 3.08% at September 30, down 12 basis points from a year earlier. She noted that loans originated before August 2022 represented 3% of the portfolio but accounted for 10% of delinquencies of 30 days or more. Asked about recoveries, she attributed much of the quarter’s improvement to internal strategies, including analytical models that help determine when and how to contact customers.
Osterhout said the third-quarter consumer-loan yield was 22.6% and that OneMain would monitor pricing opportunities as market rates change. She said operating expenses increased as the company invested in credit cards, auto finance, data science and digital capabilities. Shulman also described targeted internal uses of AI and pilots in selected lower-risk customer interactions, with expansion dependent on results and customer experience.
Guidance
Osterhout said OneMain narrowed its full-year 2026 managed receivables growth outlook to 9%, the high end of its previous range. She also narrowed the Consumer and Insurance net charge-off outlook to the higher end of the previous 7.4% to 7.9% range.
