Latest quarter
Mohawk reported third-quarter revenue of $2.8 billion, below consensus even though the estimate also rounded to $2.8 billion. Adjusted earnings per share of $2.72 beat the $2.56 consensus.
Revenue rose 1.02% from a year earlier. CFO Nick Manthey said volumes fell 4%, while price and product mix rose 4%, reflecting inflation-related price increases and a shift toward higher-value products. The filing attributed the sales increase to price and mix and an extra shipping day, partly offset by lower volume.
The filing showed sales growth in Global Ceramic and Flooring North America, while Flooring Rest of the World sales declined. It attributed the latter decline primarily to lower volume, partly offset by price and mix and more shipping days.
Gross margin rose to 25.5% from 23.7%, while operating margin increased to 6.74% from 4.96%. The filing attributed higher operating income in part to price and mix, lower restructuring-related and other costs, and productivity gains, offset partly by higher input costs and lower volume. Manthey said the company generated $390 million of free cash flow in the quarter.

What management said on the call
CEO Paul De Cock said U.S. demand weakened as the quarter ended and remained soft across most products and channels in October, particularly among builders. He said consumers were deferring larger remodeling projects, while specialty retail activity held up better and improved sequentially. On the call, De Cock also said commercial repair and remodeling was holding up better than new development.
In Europe, De Cock said residential activity and showroom traffic remained soft. He said Mohawk brought forward a ceramic price increase and announced November increases for panels and insulation after natural gas prices rose. Asked whether further price increases would affect demand, he said housing affordability and consumer confidence were more influential on near-term flooring purchases. He also said innovation and new product placements had helped offset customers’ tendency to choose less expensive products in inflationary periods.
CFO Nick Manthey said price, mix and productivity had together offset underlying inflation in the quarter. Asked about the timing of cost pressures, he said input prices generally take four to five months to flow through the income statement because of inventory turnover. De Cock said forward natural gas purchases in Europe had helped delay some inflation reaching costs.
De Cock outlined a strategy centered on market performance, product innovation, operational excellence and capital discipline. Asked about the portfolio, he said Mohawk was beginning an analysis of every business, including market attractiveness, competitive advantages, cash profitability and returns on invested capital; businesses falling short of expectations might be repositioned or reconsidered.
For the fourth quarter, Manthey said Mohawk expects low-single-digit adjusted sales growth after shipping-day and currency adjustments, with softer demand than in the third quarter. Asked about repurchase timing, he said the company intended to repurchase shares consistently but did not commit to a specific pace.
Guidance
Manthey said Mohawk now expects approximately $445 million in capital expenditures for full-year 2026, compared with its prior expectation of $460 million. He said the company’s capital priorities include maintenance, productivity and innovation projects, and that Mohawk has limited need for added capacity.
