Latest quarter
Lumentum reported Q4 FY2026 revenue of $1.0 billion, above the $988.6 million consensus. Adjusted earnings per share of $3.23 also exceeded the $2.99 consensus. CFO Wajid Ali said revenue was at the high end of the company’s guidance and adjusted EPS was above its prior range.
Revenue rose from $480.7 million a year earlier. CEO Michael Hurlston said both components and systems grew year over year, with cloud transceivers and optical circuit switches contributing to the sequential increase in systems revenue. He said shipments of pump lasers also rose from a year earlier.
Lumentum reported gross margin of 47.4%, compared with 33.3% a year earlier, and operating margin of 27.8%, compared with −1.75%. Free cash flow rose to $199.0 million from $10.1 million. Diluted EPS was −$84.65, versus $2.96 a year earlier. Ali said the quarter’s net loss included a non-cash charge from exchanging convertible notes for shares; the annual filing reported a loss on debt extinguishment from those exchanges.

What management said on the call
CEO Michael Hurlston said data center architects were increasingly using optical links as AI workloads required more speed and bandwidth. He said Lumentum had begun shipping its next-generation transceivers and had expanded internal manufacturing of optical circuit switches, or OCS, despite component supply constraints.
Asked about laser demand, Hurlston said shipments of high-power lasers were further behind demand than before. Global business units president Wupen Yuen clarified that the manufacturing ramp remained on track, but demand had accelerated. Hurlston said Lumentum had secured additional substrate supply to respond and might need more if demand continued to rise.
On pricing and margins, CFO Wajid Ali attributed the quarter’s non-GAAP gross margin improvement to factory utilization, product mix and higher prices on selected products. Asked about pricing, Hurlston said some longer-term agreements would affect prices in future periods, but the quarter’s mix of components was the larger factor. He said Lumentum expected further gross margin expansion from mix and operational execution.
Hurlston also addressed competition in laser chips. He said the company had seen no effect on its results from prospective suppliers and did not expect one. He said customers were getting better transceiver yields from Lumentum’s continuous-wave lasers and that the company had been able to charge more for them. In response to another question, he said a smaller chip design had narrowed the margin gap between those lasers and EMLs.
Ali said Lumentum spent $167.0 million on capital expenditure in Q4, primarily for cloud and AI manufacturing capacity. Hurlston said pump-laser customer agreements helped offset planned capital spending; in the question session, he said most were take-or-pay arrangements.
For the quarter ahead, Hurlston said components and systems would each account for approximately half of sequential revenue growth. He expected the first quarter with triple-digit OCS revenue and said Lumentum was adding contract-manufacturing capacity alongside its internal expansion.
Guidance
For Q1 FY2027, Lumentum guided non-GAAP operating margin to 39.5%–40.5% and non-GAAP diluted EPS to $4.05–$4.35. For the preceding Q4, its guidance had called for non-GAAP operating margin of 35.0%–36.0% and diluted EPS of $2.85–$3.05. Ali also provided a revenue range for Q1 FY2027.
