For the full fiscal year, the company’s filing attributed revenue growth largely to higher average charges and return volume at U.S. company-owned offices. The filing also reported growth in international and Wave revenue, partly offset by lower U.S. franchise royalties as acquired offices became company-owned. H&R Block attributed higher annual operating expenses to compensation and benefits, occupancy and technology costs.

What management said on the call

CEO Curtis Campbell said H&R Block maintained its share of the assisted tax preparation category during fiscal 2026 as more clients completed their returns and returned to the company. He attributed the improvement in conversion to changes across the customer journey, including automation and product enhancements.

CFO Tiffany Mason said assisted-channel volume rose 2.00% for the fiscal year. She said average charges also increased, reflecting both pricing and the mix of clients served. Mason said the company continues to plan low-single-digit price increases for fiscal 2027.

Campbell said the company is focusing on clients with more complex needs rather than pursuing volume alone. Responding to a question about DIY market share, he said some clients moved from DIY to assisted services as their needs changed, adding that H&R Block does not manage DIY volume in isolation.

Campbell said a pilot of a more consultative experience produced higher client satisfaction and greater engagement beyond tax season. He said H&R Block plans to expand the model to a full designated market area for the next tax season and is moving from seasonal to year-round field leadership.

Asked about investment, Mason identified labor and training for the consultative model, technology for automating tax preparation and workflows, and integration of Wave into the small-business strategy. She declined to quantify each investment category. Mason also said the company is balancing investment with cost reductions while continuing to pursue margin expansion.

Looking ahead, Mason said slower job growth informed the company’s expectation of moderating tax preparation industry growth. She said the outlook assumes H&R Block maintains assisted-category share at the low end of its revenue range and gains share at the high end.

Guidance

For fiscal 2027, H&R Block expects revenue of $4.1 billion to $4.2 billion and adjusted diluted earnings per share of $6.04 to $6.24. Mason said the outlook assumes continued investment in the consultative client experience and automation, alongside cost management.
