Latest quarter
General Mills reported Q1 FY2027 revenue of $4.4 billion, compared with the consensus of $4.3 billion. The company reported adjusted EPS, as the consensus counts it, of $0.75, compared with the consensus of $0.72.
The filing shows revenue declined from $4.5 billion in Q1 FY2026, a change of −2.83%. General Mills attributed the sales decline to lower volume growth, partly offset by favorable net price realization and mix. North America Retail sales declined, while International and North America Foodservice sales increased; International operating profit increased, whereas North America Retail operating profit declined.
General Mills reported diluted EPS of $0.74, versus $2.22 a year earlier. The filing said operating profit decreased partly because Q1 FY2026 included a gain related to the yogurt-business divestiture, while higher input costs and lower volume growth also affected profit. Gross margin was 33.9%, unchanged from a year earlier, while operating margin was 14.4%, compared with 38.2%. Free cash flow was $207.3 million, compared with $290.3 million a year earlier.

What management said on the call
Dana McNabb told analysts that the company’s focus is improving dollar-share trends. She said dollar sales improved and that General Mills improved share performance in most categories, though it had not returned to growth. McNabb said the company expects improved price mix as its prior base-price investments begin to lap, supported by product mix, premium innovation and price-pack architecture.
McNabb said consumers remain stressed, particularly middle- and lower-income consumers, and continue to wait for promotions. She said that behavior was assumed when General Mills set its FY2027 guidance. When analysts asked about category performance, McNabb said the company is focusing on Totino’s and fruit snacks; she said smaller brands have gained distribution in fruit snacks and that General Mills plans product launches and renovation work there.
On costs and margins, Chief Financial Officer Kofi Bruce said input-cost inflation was near the low end of the company’s expected range in Q1 and that inflation in the following quarters was expected to be similar, apart from a higher Q4. Bruce said FY2027 cost savings and input-cost inflation were expected to roughly offset in aggregate. He also said gross margins, excluding the comparison effect from the 53rd week, were expected to be roughly flat.
McNabb said General Mills expects media spending to rise by low single digits during FY2027 and described investments in marketing modernization, including a content studio, influencer use, creative agencies and e-commerce capabilities. Asked about pricing amid higher costs, she said the company would use cost savings first and could also use trade spending, mix and list pricing. McNabb did not quantify how those tools would be deployed across categories.
Bruce said the company expects a low-single-digit inventory headwind in Pet during FY2027 as customer mix changes. Asked about leverage, he said General Mills expects sequential progress over the next couple of years but did not provide an exact date for reaching its leverage target.
Guidance
General Mills now expects divestitures, foreign exchange and the 53rd week to reduce FY2027 reported net sales growth by −4.00%, according to its results release. The company said the effect is driven primarily by the 53rd-week comparison and the Brazil divestiture.
