Latest quarter
Eastman reported third-quarter revenue of $2.4 billion, below the consensus by −0.09%, although both figures round to $2.4 billion. Adjusted earnings per share were $1.84, missing the $1.92 consensus. Diluted earnings per share were $2.19, compared with $0.40 a year earlier.
Revenue rose from $2.2 billion a year earlier. Eastman’s filing attributed the increase to higher selling prices and sales volume mix, with revenue rising in every segment except Fibers. It said pricing reflected higher raw material and distribution costs as well as tight Chemical Intermediates markets during the Middle East conflict. Fibers revenue was relatively unchanged as higher volume mix offset lower prices.
The filing attributed higher EBIT excluding non-core items partly to improved asset utilization and lower planned maintenance expense. Eastman’s gross margin rose to 22.3% from 19.7%, while operating margin increased to 12.8% from 8.67%. Free cash flow fell to $195.0 million from $265.0 million.

What management said on the call
CEO Mark Costa said Advanced Materials faced challenges in automotive markets, particularly in China. He said innovation in interlayers helped keep revenue flat despite lower automotive demand. In performance films, Costa said Eastman had broadened its position into the mid-tier market in China and adjusted costs after demand and dealer destocking affected the first quarter.
Asked about Advanced Materials volume, Costa said consumer durables growth reflected new applications for Tritan. He also said Eastman had walked away from medical business that lacked value, reducing full-year revenue by about $50 million compared with the prior year. For the fourth quarter, Costa pointed to Renew volumes, consumer durables applications and a more stable performance films market as contributors to year-over-year volume growth.
On pricing, Costa said Eastman had increased specialty plastics prices as raw material and distribution costs rose. He said a further rise in PX prices would create a headwind late in the third quarter and mostly in the fourth. Annual interlayer contracts and pricing adjustments also contributed to pressure on film margins, partly offset by performance films. Costa said price increases planned for January would address the raw material costs.
Asked about production delays, Costa said pump problems delayed a new Tritan line by about a month, adding costs and causing missed orders. He said startup issues also delayed a converted PET line by about a month, but that “Both lines are up and running” and would not be an issue for the fourth quarter.
On investment, Costa said the reinstated Department of Energy award covers expansion of the existing methanolysis plant and related infrastructure as well as a second plant. He said Eastman was pursuing existing recycling and polymer sites to replace some new-build spending and would provide more details once arrangements were completed. CFO Willie McLain said working capital had built during the year and Eastman expected a release in the fourth quarter.
Guidance
Costa said Eastman’s second-quarter outlook had anticipated a raw material tailwind in the back half of 2026 as prices eased. Instead, he now expects about a $15 million headwind, partly at the end of the third quarter and mostly in the fourth, following a rise in PX prices. He said January price increases would address the cost challenge.
