What management said on the call
On the earnings call, CFO Christopher Woenker said increased operating cash conversion more than offset working capital investments made to support revenue growth. He said Dover had raised its full-year capital spending guidance to fund organic investments in response to demand. Woenker also expected free cash flow to rise further in the fourth quarter and said the full-year free cash flow guidance remained on track.
CEO Richard Tobin said Dover’s backlog was higher than a year earlier and had also risen sequentially, with roughly half scheduled to ship in the following year. Tobin also said secular growth markets had increased as a share of Dover’s revenue.
In its quarterly filing, Dover gave further detail on demand. The company attributed Climate & Sustainability Technologies’ organic growth to refrigeration systems and refrigerated door cases, as well as accelerating demand for heat exchangers used in data-center cooling and other applications. It said production ramp costs in retail refrigeration and the timing of facility consolidation projects partly offset the earnings benefit from higher volumes in that segment.
The filing attributed Clean Energy & Fueling’s organic growth to demand and pricing in retail fueling and clean energy components. In Engineered Products, Dover said lower European vehicle-services volumes drove the organic decline, partly offset by pricing and demand in other businesses.
For the fourth quarter, Dover said in its filing that it expected Engineered Products’ organic volumes to stabilize, with vehicle-services headwinds offset by demand elsewhere. The company also expected organic growth in Pumps & Process Solutions to trend positively in the final quarter.
