Danaher Corporation (DHR) Earnings & Analysis

Updated · Covers results through Q3 FY2026 · Earnings call · How this is made

Latest quarter

Danaher reported Q3 revenue of $6.6 billion, above the $6.5 billion consensus and up from $6.1 billion a year earlier. Adjusted earnings per share of $2.11 also exceeded the $1.92 consensus.

The company’s filing said core sales increased across all three segments excluding respiratory testing. Acquisitions contributed to sales growth, while tariff refunds to customers reduced reported sales. The filing said bioprocessing benefited from higher consumables demand and improved equipment sales; in Diagnostics, higher clinical demand more than offset lower respiratory-test demand.

CFO Matt Gugino said adjusted operating margin was 29.0%, helped by operational execution and a modest benefit from tariff refunds. The filing reported an operating margin of 19.0%, down from 19.1% a year earlier. Danaher generated $1.6 billion in free cash flow, compared with $1.4 billion in the prior-year quarter. The filing said tax benefits and prior-year impairment charges drove the increase in earnings from continuing operations.

What management said on the call

CEO Julie Sawyer Montgomery said demand from large pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical customers remained healthy, biotechnology activity strengthened and academic demand improved sequentially, though it remained below historic levels. CFO Matt Gugino said lower respiratory revenue held back core growth, while customers bought some respiratory tests ahead of the coming season.

Gugino said bioprocessing orders grew in the mid-teens, led by upstream consumables and reagents. In response to a question about the business, he said order trends supported his expectation that growth rates would improve in 2027. Montgomery said reshoring had a modest effect on orders so far, with larger new-site projects still in planning and their financial impact expected to begin mostly in 2028.

In Life Sciences, Montgomery said improving end markets, commercial initiatives and product launches helped the segment finish above internal expectations. Gugino said Diagnostics growth excluding respiratory testing benefited from clinical businesses and non-respiratory molecular tests. He also said the company was moving beyond the most significant effects of China’s healthcare policy changes.

On profitability, Gugino attributed the quarterly adjusted operating margin improvement primarily to operational execution, with a modest benefit from tariff refunds. Montgomery said the company would link research spending more closely to strategy, concentrate resources on selected initiatives and fund some opportunities at the enterprise level.

Asked how Danaher would improve execution, Montgomery said sales teams would receive clearer expectations and that the company would bring businesses together more often when serving customers. She said this approach in Diagnostics had created several hundred millions of dollars of opportunity. Montgomery also said Masimo’s integration was progressing and that the company had a pipeline of potential cost savings and commercial synergies.

For the next quarter, Gugino said respiratory revenue would remain a headwind to core growth. He said Danaher would provide a more detailed 2027 outlook in January after its planning process.

Guidance

Danaher raised its FY2026 adjusted diluted EPS guidance to $8.57–$8.62 from $8.45–$8.60. The company is planning for $1.5 billion in respiratory revenue for the year, below its previous range. Montgomery also described that amount as a starting point for the following year.
