Latest quarter

Cytokinetics reported third-quarter revenue of $47.6 million, up from $1.9 million a year earlier, as sales of its recently launched heart medicine MYQORZO contributed $44.5 million. Chief Financial Officer Sung Lee said U.S. net product revenue was $43.1 million and Europe contributed $1.4 million; collaboration revenue was $3.1 million.

The company reported a net loss of $190.1 million, compared with $306.2 million a year earlier. Its diluted loss per share narrowed to −$1.37 from −$2.55. Research and development expenses rose to $99.3 million from $97.3 million, which Lee attributed to clinical trial activity and personnel costs. Selling, general and administrative expenses increased to $113.1 million from $69.5 million, primarily because of launch and personnel costs.

Cytokinetics’ operating margin was −351.3%, compared with −8,613.4% a year earlier. Free cash flow was −$124.7 million, compared with −$116.9 million, and the company ended the quarter with approximately $1.6 billion in cash and investments.

What management said on the call

CEO Robert Blum said MYQORZO’s launch continued to exceed Cytokinetics’ expectations. Chief Commercial Officer Andrew Callos said more than 2,800 patients had been dispensed the medicine by the end of the third quarter, while nearly 1,100 U.S. healthcare providers had prescribed it. He estimated that its new-to-brand exit share in the cardiac myosin inhibitor category approached 45% in the quarter, up from approximately 40% in the second quarter.

Callos said prescribers who had not previously used a cardiac myosin inhibitor accounted for approximately 70% of category growth since the second quarter. Responding to a question about sustained growth, he said new prescribers fueled most of the category’s third-quarter growth and that he expected the trend to continue. Blum said growth was coming from a broader foundation of “new to the category prescribing.”

On European expansion, Callos said Germany permits a launch while pricing is negotiated, whereas reimbursement reviews in other major markets generally take 12 to 18 months after approval. He said Europe could account for around 15% of MYQORZO revenue when the European and U.S. markets are mature, with more meaningful revenue likely in the 2028, 2029 timeframe. Blum said the company expects a U.K. launch in the fourth quarter and launches in additional countries in 2027.

Asked about prescribing requirements, Blum said real-world evidence from patients would be needed to support a potentially relaxed or removed U.S. safety program over time. Callos said payer criteria he was aware of generally require current or prior beta-blocker use, and that Cytokinetics was not seeking first-line use for MYQORZO.

For non-obstructive HCM, Blum said Cytokinetics plans a U.S. supplemental application in the fourth quarter and a European application in early 2027. Research chief Fady Malik said heart failure events in the ACACIA-HCM trial occurred early during dose titration, often after a trigger, and generally resolved with standard therapy. On a question about 2027 guidance, Blum said it was “premature, I think, to comment on that today.”
