Capital One reported Q3 FY2026 revenue of $20.4 billion, compared with $19.7 billion a year earlier. In the consensus comparison, revenue as the consensus counts it was $16.3 billion, above the $16.1 billion estimate; adjusted earnings per share of $6.69 also beat the $5.45 consensus.
Capital One reported diluted earnings per share of $5.61, up from $4.83 a year earlier. CFO Andrew Young said earnings included adjusting items related to the Discover and Brex acquisitions. He said revenue rose 3% from the preceding quarter and non-interest expense declined 2%.
CEO Richard Fairbank said domestic card revenue increased 5% year over year, driven by growth in legacy Capital One purchase volume and loans. He said consumer banking revenue rose about 17%, predominantly from Discover revenue synergies and auto-loan growth. Young said the provision for credit losses was $2.9 billion, reflecting $3.1 billion of net charge-offs and a $225 million allowance release.

What management said on the call
Fairbank said domestic card purchase volume grew 11% year over year, primarily because of legacy Capital One spending. He said legacy Discover purchase volume was essentially flat and its card loans shrank about 3% as a temporary slowdown in loan growth continued. Excluding Discover, he said, ending card loans grew about 6%.
Fairbank said Global Payment Network transaction volume increased 25% year over year, primarily following the conversion of Capital One debit customers to the Discover network. Asked about credit-card migration, he said Capital One plans to originate cards on the network and convert existing customers, while testing which customers and products to move and when. He called it a phased effort: “This is not going to be a big bang thing like you saw on the debit side.”
Young said net interest margin rose to 8.41% in the third quarter, helped by higher domestic card yields, lower average cash balances and an additional day in the quarter. Fairbank said the domestic card charge-off rate fell to 3.98%, benefiting from earlier delinquency improvements and recoveries. Asked whether credit could continue improving, he said recent delinquencies had tracked seasonality and that higher recoveries inventories reflected earlier charge-offs.
Fairbank said the Discover integration had generated about $1.8 billion of annualized combined synergies year to date, ahead of schedule. He expects remaining synergies to roughly offset likely interchange revenue lost from the Visa Mastercard settlement.
Asked about the efficiency ratio, Fairbank said it would reflect both synergies and investment, including technology and marketing. He said Capital One was not giving specific guidance on the ratio. Fairbank also said marketing-intensive businesses were becoming a larger part of the mix and that competitors continued to invest heavily.
Guidance
Fairbank said Capital One expects the percentage increase in marketing from Q3 to Q4 to be similar to the increase over the same period in 2025, primarily because of seasonality. He also said the company expects to increase marketing investment in 2027.
