Latest quarter
Cognex reported Q2 FY2026 revenue of $291.3 million, below the $293.2 million consensus, while adjusted earnings per share of $0.45 exceeded the $0.42 consensus. Revenue was within the company’s own $280.0 million–$300.0 million guidance range.
Revenue rose from $249.1 million a year earlier. In its filing, Cognex attributed the increase to demand across most major end markets and favorable currency movements. CFO Dennis Fehr said China revenue rose 42% in constant currency, led by semiconductor and electronics, while Americas revenue grew 27%, aided partly by a change in where electronics customers placed orders. The filing said Europe revenue declined 12%, reflecting that procurement shift and automotive softness.
Cognex reported gross margin of 70.6%, up from 67.4% a year earlier, and attributed the improvement to a more favorable end-market mix and higher volumes. Operating margin rose to 29.4% from 17.4%, which the filing attributed to operating leverage from revenue growth. Diluted EPS increased to $0.43 from $0.24, and free cash flow rose to $67.6 million from $40.4 million.

What management said on the call
CEO Matt Moschner said semiconductor, electronics and packaging led Q2 demand, alongside continued orders from large logistics customers. He said Cognex was benefiting from an improving industrial cycle and adoption of automation and AI-enabled machine vision.
Moschner said the OneVision platform was generally available and that hundreds of customers were using it. He said Cognex had added approximately 4,500 new customers year-to-date and would increasingly focus on expanding business with existing accounts. Asked how the company would serve a growing customer base, he said Cognex was emphasizing relationships with systems integrators, machine builders and services partners alongside its direct sales efforts.
On data centers, Moschner said the business represented a low single-digit percentage of revenue and was growing more than 30% year-over-year. Asked about its potential, he said most current revenue came from quality assurance and inspection of components, while activity in server assembly was beginning to develop. He said Cognex was still assessing the full opportunity and was not prepared to quantify it.
CFO Dennis Fehr attributed Q2 margin performance to favorable mix, volume and accelerated cost reductions. He said Cognex expected approximately $35 million of annualized net cost reductions by the end of 2026 and was shifting its emphasis toward productivity and process improvement.
Asked about supply-chain costs, Fehr said further increases in memory prices had led Cognex to include about 75 basis points of gross-margin headwind in its Q3 guide. He expected pricing to offset the cost increases fully in 2027, though he said the timing could affect the second half of 2026. Moschner said higher memory prices were a risk to electronics customers’ automation demand, but he had not yet seen evidence of that effect.
Fehr said Cognex typically had “a 3 to 4 months type of visibility” and did not yet have a complete view of year-end demand. He also said approximately $7 million of electronics orders had shifted from Q3 into Q2.
Guidance
For FY2026, Cognex raised its semiconductor and electronics outlooks to double-digit revenue growth, from high single- to double-digit growth for each. The company raised its packaging outlook to double-digit growth from high single-digit growth. It also raised its logistics outlook to high-single-digit growth from mid- to high-single-digit growth, while CEO Matt Moschner said logistics growth rates were still expected to moderate in the second half.
