Latest quarter
Bruker reported Q2 FY2026 revenue of $838.5 million, below the $857.2 million consensus, while adjusted EPS of $0.49 exceeded the $0.38 consensus. Revenue rose from $797.4 million a year earlier.
The filing attributed the revenue increase mainly to demand for analytical instruments in biotechnology and pharmaceuticals, hospitals and clinical settings, and semiconductors. It said acquisitions and higher academic and government research and biopharma revenue helped the BSI CALID segment, while revenue in BioSpin, NANO and BEST remained consistent with the prior year.
Gross margin rose to 49.6% from 44.9%. The filing attributed the increase primarily to cost savings, a positive net U.S. tariff impact, higher volume and favorable mix. Operating margin fell to −7.79% from 1.49%; the filing cited goodwill impairment charges and foreign exchange headwinds, partly offset by cost savings and revenue performance. Diluted EPS was −$0.41, compared with $0.05 a year earlier.
Bruker’s non-GAAP free cash flow was −$106.2 million, compared with −$148.8 million a year earlier.

What management said on the call
CEO Frank Laukien said scientific instruments organic bookings grew 10% year over year in the second quarter, with the segment’s book-to-bill ratio above 1.0 for a fourth consecutive quarter. Biopharma bookings grew more than 20%, driven by demand for NMR, X-ray and mass spectrometry tools, he said. Orders for semiconductor tools and energy research technologies each grew more than 50% organically.
Laukien said U.S. academic orders remained weak, even as academic medical research bookings grew in Europe and China. Asked about academic demand, he said China academic and government orders grew more than 20% in Q2. He attributed a year-over-year decline of more than $15 million in U.S. academic and government revenue to weak orders in the second half of 2025.
CFO Gerald Herman said tariff refunds reduced organic revenue growth from 3.4% to 2.8% but added around 200 basis points to the year-over-year operating margin. He said cost savings, favorable volume and mix also helped margins. The quarter included a $135 million non-cash goodwill impairment charge related to automation and spatial biology businesses that continued to report operating losses, Herman said.
Asked about the timing of tariff refunds, Herman said some had been charged to customers and therefore reduced revenue; the refunds arrived earlier than assumed in the company’s guidance. On fourth-quarter mix, he said pricing adjustments made in 2025 would continue to provide some benefit, but volume would be more important than mix to the quarter’s performance.
Laukien said delivery times for some deep-tech tools can be 9 to 24 months, depending on customer facilities, so some bookings would benefit later periods. He also described a new operating structure combining BioSpin, Daltonics and Optics into the Biosystems Group. Asked about growth visibility, he said he expected organic growth to accelerate in 2027 but could not quantify it.
Guidance
Herman said Bruker updated its FY2026 outlook for foreign exchange and tax rates. It now expects a 0.5% revenue tailwind from foreign exchange, rather than 1.5% previously, and revenue of $3.54 to $3.57 billion.
For Q3, Herman now expects a slight sequential decrease in operating margin and EPS, citing the shift of approximately $20 million of semiconductor revenue into Q4 and a tariff benefit pulled into Q2. On the prior-quarter call, he had expected operating margin improvement sequentially through the second, third and fourth quarters.
