Antero Resources Corporation (AR) Earnings & Analysis

Updated · Covers results through Q3 FY2026 · Earnings call · How this is made

Latest quarter

Antero Resources reported Q3 FY2026 revenue of $1.6 billion, below the consensus despite both figures rounding to $1.6 billion. Adjusted earnings of $0.83 per share also missed the consensus of $0.95. Revenue rose from $1.2 billion a year earlier, while diluted earnings per share increased to $1.19 from $0.24.

The company’s filing attributed higher natural gas sales primarily to production from the HG acquisition and increased volumes, partly offset by lower gas prices and the Utica Shale divestiture. It said NGL sales also rose, helped by acquired production, higher volumes and higher prices. The filing showed a litigation gain in Antero Midstream operating expenses.

Antero reported gross margin of 45.2%, compared with 32.2% a year earlier, and operating margin of 25.1%, compared with 9.73%. Free cash flow increased to $210.6 million from $37.7 million. The filing attributed lower gathering, compression, processing and transportation costs per unit partly to the acquired HG properties and transportation arrangements.

What management said on the call

CEO Michael Kennedy said Antero expects LNG and power projects to increase demand for natural gas nationally and in Appalachia. He said the company’s drilling inventory, midstream integration and cost initiatives support its plans, and that it had entered term gas sales agreements with multiple parties at the Clarington market.

CFO Brendan Krueger attributed the quarter’s production increase to the HG acquisition and transactions that raised Antero’s working interests. He said total cash costs declined from a year earlier, while the natural gas peer group’s average costs increased. Lower costs and exposure to liquids also helped Antero increase its unhedged EBITDAX margin despite lower natural gas prices, Krueger said.

Kennedy said a royalty-interest transaction had met its return hurdles, allowing cash flow to revert to Antero. He said transportation optimization agreements executed during the quarter generated $20.0 million in annualized free cash flow. Antero plans to expand that strategy, and Kennedy said the company had seen interest from downstream customers seeking access to its gas through the Eastside Express pipeline.

In the question-and-answer session, Kennedy explained that Antero can shut in local dry gas when prices are low while continuing to produce liquids. He said downstream disruptions had exacerbated regional gas-price weakness in September and October. Asked about transportation optimization, he said Antero was seeking the agreements that offered the best response and margin improvement.

Krueger said longer-term sales at Clarington could add margin compared with shorter-term sales, and he expected Antero to move more volumes there as customers seek supply. Kennedy said the company intends to maintain a consistent drilling and completion program, while retaining discretion over completion timing according to commodity prices. He said investors could expect a similar capital plan next year.

Guidance

Antero now targets $1.2 billion in drilling and completion spending for FY2026 and expects $325.0 million to $350.0 million of that spending in the fourth quarter. In the previous quarter, Kennedy had put overall FY2026 capital spending above $1.0 billion but below $1.2 billion, with fourth-quarter completion spending still to be determined.
