What management said on the call

Chief Executive Officer Keith Demmings said the quarter reflected growth across Global Lifestyle and Global Housing, while the company continued investments in data, automation and AI to improve operations, decision-making and support for clients and consumers. Demmings said Connected Living growth included expanded relationships with mobile carriers and cable operators, program optimization in mobile, extended service contracts and financial services, and new capabilities in adjacent markets. He said Global Automotive earnings increased through global partnerships and improving loss experience.

Chief Financial Officer Keith Meier said Connected Living adjusted EBITDA included approximately $10 million of non-run-rate benefits, and that adjusted EBITDA increased 22% after normalizing for those items. Meier said growth came from global supply-chain operations, device-protection subscriber growth and financial-services program optimization; the supply-chain business serviced more than 7 million devices, approximately 1.8 million more than a year earlier. He also said Global Housing benefited from lower claims frequency amid fewer weather events, favorable catastrophe-reinsurance pricing, specialty-product growth and higher average premiums in lender-placed insurance.

An analyst asked whether moderating insurance-market conditions could prompt lender-placed policyholders to return to traditional homeowners insurance. Demmings said the underlying placement rate was stable after excluding a client’s transfer of a loan portfolio to a servicer that was not an Assurant client; he said Florida policies were down about 2% year to date, while Texas and California were up 1% or 2%. Demmings said the new Freedom Mortgage relationship covers approximately 2.6 million loans and policies are expected to build over 12 months.

Meier said quarter-end liquidity was $911 million and that Assurant returned $123 million to shareholders in the quarter, including $75 million of repurchases and $48 million of dividends. He said the company raised its repurchase expectation toward the upper end of its $300 to $350 million range while retaining flexibility for organic and M&A investment.

Guidance

Meier said Assurant increased its full-year 2026 outlook and now expects adjusted EBITDA and adjusted earnings per share to grow by mid-single digits, both excluding reportable catastrophes. The company expects approximately 10% underlying growth in both measures excluding catastrophes and prior-year reserve development. Assurant now expects Global Lifestyle adjusted EBITDA to increase by low double digits and Global Housing adjusted EBITDA, excluding reportable catastrophes, to grow modestly. The company now expects a Corporate and Other adjusted EBITDA loss of approximately −$145.0 million.
