Business profile

Updated

Alcoa is a vertically integrated aluminum company: it mines bauxite, refines it into alumina, and smelts alumina into aluminum metal. It also casts that metal into shapes customers can use. Bauxite is the raw material for alumina, while alumina is the main raw material for aluminum smelters.

The company sells bauxite and alumina to customers around the world and uses some of its alumina in its own smelters. It also sells primary aluminum as standard metal or as products made in particular shapes and alloys. Customers use those products to make goods for transportation, construction, packaging, electrical and other industrial markets.
