Global markets face a cautious start as right-wing political setbacks dominate headlines: Lula’s re-election in Brazil and Serbia’s Vucic losing to a student-led movement, with Bolsonaro disputing defeat and a Brazilian ETF sliding in Tokyo. Next up, Israel’s Likud party faces its own test, while U.S. midterms loom for Donald Trump’s party. Markets are subdued with futures and most Asian stocks down; oil has eased somewhat though Brent logged a strong weekly gain on supply concerns from Houthi attacks and regional tensions. Central banks are expected to remain hawkish amid high energy costs, with Canada and New Zealand seen tightening while the Fed, BOJ, and ECB may hold. Earnings highlights include Alphabet, Microsoft, Amazon, Intel and Sandisk, alongside Asia’s SK Hynix and Samsung reporting this week.
