Latest quarter
Vulcan Materials reported Q2 FY2026 revenue of $2.2 billion, slightly above the consensus estimate, which also rounded to $2.2 billion. Adjusted earnings were $2.59 per share, above the $2.50 consensus estimate.
Revenue rose from $2.1 billion a year earlier, while diluted earnings per share increased to $2.48 from $2.42. CEO Ronnie Pruitt said aggregates shipments increased 1% and mix-adjusted selling prices rose 5% year over year, with pricing improvement across geographies. He said higher prices and operating efficiencies helped offset inflation in input costs.
Pruitt said the company generated $654 million of adjusted EBITDA in the quarter, approximately matching the prior year despite energy headwinds of almost $40 million. Vulcan’s gross margin fell to 29.0% from 29.7%, and its operating margin declined to 21.1% from 22.4%. The company reported free cash flow of $166.1 million, down from $240.3 million a year earlier.

What management said on the call
On the July call, CEO Ronnie Pruitt said demand was tracking as expected, with backlogs similar to those at the start of the year. He pointed to public infrastructure, highways, data centers, manufacturing and power projects, while saying residential construction remained constrained by affordability. Pruitt said large private projects were supporting nonresidential activity and that public infrastructure awards in Vulcan markets were up 20% year over year.
Discussing pricing and fuel costs, Pruitt said Vulcan had brought midyear price increases forward to June and called price its “biggest lever” to overcome fuel costs. He said the company would continue evaluating pricing as oil costs remained elevated. On competition, Pruitt said other producers also faced diesel and inflationary pressures, though he could not say whether everyone would respond in the same way.
Asked about operating costs, Pruitt said production efficiencies and labor scheduling helped dampen the effect of a $26 million diesel headwind in the second quarter. He said Vulcan was also examining diesel-intensive stripping work and using liquid asphalt storage to manage cost volatility. Executive Mary Carlisle said she expected energy inflation to continue in the second half and, at the time of the call, anticipated year-over-year gross margin expansion in that period, driven largely by the fourth quarter.
On investment, Pruitt said Vulcan had sold its California concrete and noncore U.S. Virgin Islands operations and acquired an aggregates operation that expanded its reach into Southern Colorado and strengthened its Dallas-Fort Worth distribution network. He said some acquisitions in the pipeline would likely close in the second half. On shipping volumes, Pruitt said reaching the company’s range would involve continuing at a pace similar to the second quarter, with weather a factor in the fourth quarter.
Guidance
In its October 29 release, Vulcan said it expected approximately $2.4 billion of adjusted EBITDA for FY2026. On the July call, Pruitt had reiterated a full-year range of $2.4 billion to $2.6 billion.
