What management said on the call

On the second-quarter call, CEO David Regnery said demand for commercial HVAC drove enterprise organic bookings up 37% and backlog to 12.1 billion. He said Americas commercial HVAC bookings rose 50%, with applied bookings up 130%. About $6 billion of backlog was scheduled for 2027 and beyond, he said.

Regnery said customers were assessing their operations in response to elevated energy prices and choosing Trane’s systems to save energy and reduce operating costs. He said demand included data centers as well as growth across most of the company’s key commercial HVAC markets. He also expected Americas transport markets to improve in late 2026, with a more gradual recovery than the external outlook he cited.

CFO Chris Kuehn said inflation relative to pricing was a headwind in the second quarter and would remain one in the second half, though he expected it to ease sequentially. In response to a question about inflation and pricing, Regnery said Trane works with suppliers and pursues internal productivity before using price increases when those measures cannot offset costs. COO Donnie Simmons said the company also looks to remove product costs through approaches such as insourcing and redesign.

Kuehn said the Middle East conflict hurt EMEA margins and prompted cost actions at the end of June, including changes to positions and infrastructure. He expected Middle East revenue to be down about 30% in the second half. He also said Trane expected margin expansion in the third quarter, followed by a larger increase in the fourth quarter, while EMEA margins would remain under pressure.

Asked about supply-chain capacity, Regnery said constraints might be somewhat greater than normal but were manageable. Simmons said Trane shares its production plans with suppliers and works with them on processes and access to components.
