Latest quarter
Regions Financial reported Q2 FY2026 revenue of $2.4 billion, down −2.14% from a year earlier, when revenue also rounded to $2.4 billion. Diluted earnings per share rose to $0.64 from $0.59.
The company’s 10-Q said lower funding costs helped lift net interest income and margin despite a modest decline in loan yields. Noninterest income declined, principally because of securities losses from repositioning transactions and lower mortgage income; service charges and investment-related fees partly offset those declines. Regions said higher salaries, benefits and outside-services costs contributed to an increase in noninterest expense.
Regions reported an operating margin of 30.2%, compared with 29.1% a year earlier, and free cash flow of $294.0 million, down from $487.0 million. Its filing said the provision for credit losses declined as previously identified loans were resolved.
For the separate quarter ended September 30, Regions reported adjusted EPS of $0.73 against a consensus of $0.67. Revenue was $2.0 billion, −0.37% below the consensus.

What management said on the call
In subsequent commentary, CEO John Turner described continued commercial lending growth but said rising costs were slowing new investor-real-estate activity. Chief Financial Officer Anil Chadha highlighted asset repricing and deposit mix as supports for net interest margin into 2027. Chadha also said technology investment would remain elevated for several years, with a focus on cybersecurity and operational improvements.
On the earlier Q1 earnings call, CFO Anil Chadda said commercial and industrial lending growth was broad-based. He attributed roughly half of the quarter’s loan growth to customers drawing on existing credit lines, with new loans accounting for the balance. Turner said both corporate and middle-market customers had increased their use of credit lines, while customer liquidity had also risen.
Asked about deposit competition, Chadda said banks were using promotional offers in markets where they sought new customers while managing pricing on existing deposits. He described deposit costs as the primary mechanism for meeting margin objectives and pointed to fixed-asset repricing and lending as other factors.
On credit quality, Turner said Regions was still working through some office, multifamily, transportation and communications loans. He said the timing of a return to the company’s charge-off range was “still not entirely clear.”
Turner also outlined plans for a loan conversion and an improved digital offering for small businesses, followed by a deposit-conversion pilot. Discussing hiring, he said new bankers would take time to generate business, with an expected contribution later in the year and in 2027.
Guidance
On the Q1 call, Chadda said Regions expected full-year 2026 adjusted noninterest expense to rise between 1.50% and 3.50%. He also expected average loans and average deposits to increase by low single digits versus 2025, and adjusted noninterest income to grow between 3–5% versus 2025.
