Parker-Hannifin Corporation (PH) Earnings & Analysis

Updated · Covers results through Q1 FY2027 · Earnings call · How this is made

Latest quarter

Parker-Hannifin reported first-quarter revenue of $5.99 billion, above the $5.82 billion consensus estimate, and adjusted earnings of $8.90 per share, above the $8.23 consensus. Adjusted EPS also exceeded the company’s earlier $8.07 expectation for the quarter.

Revenue rose 17.9% from a year earlier, which Parker’s filing attributed primarily to organic growth in both segments and sales from the Filtration Group and Curtis acquisitions. The filing said North American industrial organic sales increased 9.4%, while international industrial organic sales grew 11.6%, helped by demand in Asia Pacific. Aerospace Systems sales grew as volumes increased across its markets, particularly commercial aircraft equipment and aftermarket parts.

Gross margin rose to 37.7% from 37.5%; the filing attributed the increase to higher volume and favorable mix, partly offset by acquisition-related inventory amortization. CFO Todd Leombruno said adjusted segment operating margin reached 28.6%. The filing said operating cash flow fell by $30 million from a year earlier, primarily because of working capital requirements and higher income taxes paid.

What management said on the call

CEO Jenny Parmentier said orders and shipments reflected a recovery across Parker’s markets, with electronics and semiconductors growing by double digits. She said distributor purchases were increasing in response to end demand rather than restocking. CFO Todd Leombruno said the increase in Parker’s organic growth outlook was demand-related, not price-related.

On an analyst’s question about inflation, Parmentier said material and logistics costs were still rising, but Parker had returned to a more normal industrial pricing environment. She said the company had taken pricing action where needed and would do so again if necessary.

Leombruno said Asia-Pacific organic sales grew 23.4% in the quarter. Discussing the international outlook, Parmentier pointed to electronics and semiconductor demand in Asia Pacific, mixed conditions in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, and softer conditions in Latin America. In aerospace, she said both original-equipment and aftermarket businesses grew 14%, with an aging aircraft fleet supporting aftermarket demand.

Asked about margins after the Filtration Group acquisition, Leombruno said the acquired business entered Parker at lower margins than its existing operations, creating a drag until cost synergies develop. Parmentier said integration teams were focused initially on safety and had begun improvement events. She said the teams were also identifying opportunities to offer each company’s technologies to the other’s customers, although Parker does not model revenue synergies.

Leombruno said Parker expected second-quarter sales of nearly $6.2 billion and adjusted EPS of $8.82. Asked about acquisition integration metrics, Parmentier said the company was not ready to disclose specific numbers. She also said Parker does not discuss individual customers’ aircraft build rates.

Guidance

Parker raised its FY2027 reported sales growth forecast to 16% to 19% and organic growth forecast to 7.5% to 10.5%. Leombruno said the outlook includes $1.85 billion in Filtration Group sales.

The company raised its adjusted EPS range to $36.45 to $37.25 and its adjusted segment operating margin range to 27.7% to 28.1%. It also raised its free cash flow forecast to $3.5 billion to $4.0 billion. Parmentier said Parker raised its aerospace organic growth forecast to approximately 10% and its in-plant and industrial and transportation forecasts to high-single-digit growth.
