The filing reported Specialties revenue of $152 million and gross profit of $50 million, up 39%, citing the Premier Magnesia acquisition and organic pricing gains.
Martin Marietta reported gross margin of 25.4%, compared with 30.8% a year earlier, and operating margin of 19.1%, compared with 25.7%. The company reported free cash flow of −$16.0 million, compared with $208.0 million a year earlier.

What management said on the call
Ward Nye said infrastructure and heavy non-residential markets supported demand during the quarter, while recent acquisitions also contributed. He said state transportation departments continued to advance multi-year construction programs and that federal infrastructure funds remained to be invested. Nye said heavy non-residential activity was supported by data centers, warehouses, power generation and domestic manufacturing.
Michael Petro said core aggregates revenue was $1.5 billion, up 16%, as organic shipments increased 2.3% and total shipments rose 17% to 61.6 million tons. Petro said total average selling prices declined 2%, while organic prices rose 3.7% after adjusting for geographic mix. He said acquisitions and faster shipment growth in lower-price regions affected the reported pricing measure, and that New Frontier’s full-quarter contribution would make that effect more pronounced in the second half.
Petro said organic cost of goods sold per ton increased 3.6%, including a 150-basis-point effect from external freight costs, and said energy costs were expected to remain elevated through year-end. He said the reported aggregate gross-profit figure included a $52 million non-cash inventory step-up charge and higher depreciation, depletion and amortization expense; he said most inventory fair-value charges were behind the company.
Analysts asked about shipment, pricing and cost assumptions within the outlook. Nye said shipments were trending toward the high end of the company’s range and pricing toward the lower end because of geographic and product mix, while Petro said New Frontier’s EBITDA contribution should largely offset continued elevated diesel costs. Petro said the company had completed the rollout of its PreciseIQ quoting application and pricing algorithm, which management said incorporated elevated inflation into targeted prices.
Nye said the company completed the New Frontier Materials acquisition in May and announced an agreement to combine with LNA. Petro said Martin Marietta expected to return to its targeted leverage range within 24 months after the LNA transaction closes. Management identified approximately $350 million of run-rate pre-tax cash-flow improvement opportunities, but Petro said it had not quantified the direct operating-expense contribution.
