Latest quarter
JBT Marel reported second-quarter revenue and adjusted earnings per share below the consensus. Revenue rose to $981.0 million from $935.0 million a year earlier, while diluted EPS increased to $0.54 from $0.07. Revenue was within the company’s own guidance range for the quarter.
The company’s filing attributed revenue growth to higher volumes and favorable currency translation. Protein Solutions revenue increased, driven by recurring revenue and a recovery in poultry project activity. Prepared Food and Beverage Solutions revenue was flat, as lower equipment volumes offset a currency benefit.
JBT Marel reported a gross margin of 36.6%, up from 35.8% a year earlier. The filing attributed the increase partly to tariff recoveries and higher sales volumes, offset in part by inflation. Operating margin declined to 4.69% from 5.13%; the filing said expenses included a $33 million intangible asset impairment charge. Free cash flow fell to $79.0 million from $88.0 million.

What management said on the call
CEO Brian Deck said second-quarter orders increased 10% year over year, marking a third consecutive quarter above $1 billion. He attributed part of the increase to Prepared Food and Beverage demand and cross-selling, and said poultry investment continued across processing. In the Q&A, Deck said Prepared Foods orders grew about 15% year over year as customers shifted some volume toward value-added products.
Asked about the revenue and margin cadence, Deck said the company was about $20 million short of its quarterly revenue expectations, entirely in Prepared Food and Beverage. He attributed roughly half to logistics delays and half to production inefficiencies associated with facility moves. Deck said the company had redistributed that revenue across the second half and estimated the shortfall reduced quarterly EBITDA by $5 million, maybe $6 million.
CFO Matthew Meister said tariff refunds helped quarterly adjusted EBITDA, partly offset by prior-year tariff expense and accelerated incentive compensation. He said higher logistics, metals and other input costs pressured margins, while the company had taken pricing actions. Deck added that JBT Marel had not recovered all logistics inflation through pricing in the second quarter, with a lag between costs and pricing actions.
Meister said the company was restructuring warehouse automation, consolidating 2 facilities into 1 as it standardizes products. He expects approximately $9 million in annual savings, including approximately $3 million in the second half of 2026. Asked about segment margins, Meister said he expects Prepared Food and Beverage margin improvement from the third to the fourth quarter as inefficiencies ease and volume increases.
For the company overall, Meister said backlog provided visibility to over 90% of second-half equipment revenue. He expects a steeper ramp in fourth-quarter results than in the third quarter as operational changes improve production efficiency.
Guidance
JBT Marel refined its FY2026 adjusted EPS guidance to $7.85 to $8.35. CFO Matthew Meister said the revision reflects updated assumptions for depreciation, amortization and the effective tax rate. The company gave the revised range as part of its full-year outlook.
