Ingredion Incorporated (INGR) Earnings & Analysis

Updated · Covers results through Q2 FY2026 · Earnings call · How this is made

Latest quarter

Ingredion reported Q2 FY2026 revenue of $1.9 billion, above the $1.8 billion consensus. Adjusted earnings per share were $2.82, compared with the consensus of $2.73. Reported diluted EPS fell to $1.78 from $2.99 a year earlier.

The filing attributes higher sales to favorable currency movements and volumes, partly offset by less favorable price mix. Texture & Healthful Solutions sales rose to $627 million from $599 million, as higher volumes outweighed lower price mix. Food & Industrial Ingredients U.S./Canada sales fell to $488 million from $523 million, reflecting Argo production challenges and softer volumes and price mix.

Ingredion reported gross margin of 23.0%, down from 26.0%, and operating margin of 10.2%, down from 14.8%. The filing says higher manufacturing costs and the Argo thermal event increased cost of sales; it also cites Cabo plant closure charges and acquisition-related foreign exchange losses among the reasons net income fell. Ingredion reported quarterly free cash flow of $129.0 million, compared with $96.0 million a year earlier.

What management said on the call

On the call, interim CFO Jason Payant attributed the decline in adjusted operating income to Argo manufacturing issues and currency and economic headwinds in Mexico, partly offset by Texture & Healthful Solutions. He said that segment’s sales volume rose 7% in the quarter, while lower price mix and higher tapioca costs offset some of the benefit to operating income.

Discussing demand, Payant said “the larger share of the impact is from the Argo challenges, not necessarily the weaker demand environment.” He said some customers drew more product from other suppliers during Ingredion’s production difficulties and that volume was expected to return gradually through the third and fourth quarters. James Zallie said the company incurred additional costs to keep serving customers.

Asked about Argo, Zallie said its grind was “operating reliably and at expected run rates” and that downstream refinery issues causing downtime and rework had been addressed. He said the germ processing unit returned in early June after the thermal event and oil processing was running at historical rates. Zallie also cited targeted capital investment to improve reliability.

On pricing, Payant said passing tapioca cost increases through to customers typically takes 1 quarter to 1.5 quarters. Zallie said the company expected near-term margin pressure while prices caught up with costs. Payant added that a stronger Mexican peso raises the dollar cost of the company’s peso-denominated expenses.

Asked about the industrial business, Zallie said Ingredion had focused investment on corrugating technology and expanded Cedar Rapids capacity to support packaging opportunities. For the quarter ahead, Payant said corporate costs would rise sequentially after timing benefits in Q2, while some higher Argo inventory costs could still flow through the income statement.

Guidance

Ingredion now expects full-year adjusted operating income to decline by mid-single digits, reflecting the second-half effect of selling its majority stake in the Pakistan business. Payant said cash from operations is now expected to be $700.0 million to $800.0 million, and capital expenditures $450.0 million to $490.0 million, including additional spending at Argo.

For Texture & Healthful Solutions, Payant now expects operating income to rise by mid- to high single digits; the earlier outlook was for low-single-digit growth. For Food & Industrial Ingredients U.S./Canada, he now expects operating income to fall 20% to 25%, compared with the prior outlook for a low-double-digit decline. Ingredion also raised its reported effective tax-rate outlook to 27.4%–28.9% from 26.0%–27.5%.
