Latest quarter
Dolby reported Q3 FY2026 revenue of $305.0 million, below the $313.8 million consensus and down from $315.5 million a year earlier. Adjusted earnings per share were $0.69, above the $0.67 consensus; diluted earnings per share were $0.30, compared with $0.48 a year earlier.
The company’s filing attributed lower mobile licensing revenue partly to the timing of minimum-volume commitments in audio patents, while higher imaging-patent revenue provided an offset. Dolby also reported lower PC and broadcast licensing revenue from recoveries and other factors. Licensing revenue in its other end market rose on Dolby Cinema and adoption of Dolby Atmos in cars, while consumer electronics licensing benefited from recoveries.
Dolby’s gross margin increased to 86.8% from 86.1%, while its operating margin fell to 11.3% from 15.1%. Free cash flow was $157.7 million, compared with $61.3 million a year earlier. Revenue was within the company’s prior Q3 guidance of $295.0 million to $325.0 million.

What management said on the call
CEO Kevin Yeaman said Dolby is expanding beyond device licensing by working with content partners that want to increase audience engagement. He said Meta and Alibaba became licensees of the video distribution program, a patent pool for imaging technology used by streamers. Yeaman said Dolby was making progress toward its target of 10% of revenue from content partners by the end of FY28.
Asked about the pool’s progress, Yeaman said the addition of licensees can help other prospective customers move through their evaluation process. He said some companies assess whether the pool is comprehensive and whether its price is right, while others hold out.
Yeaman also described a multiyear Dolby OptiView streaming agreement with Roberts Communications Network. In response to a question about the product’s direction, he said Dolby plans to expand OptiView Ads across its customer base in the fall after testing. He described the aim as giving sports organizations and streamers “the ability to better engage their fans and audiences with real time personalized experiences.”
CFO Robert Park said Q3 revenue from Dolby Atmos, Dolby Vision and imaging patents exceeded expectations, offset by deal timing and foundational audio. He said lower-than-expected operating expenses helped offset lower-than-expected revenue and higher tax in non-GAAP earnings.
In the discussion of memory prices, Park said mobile and PC customers face more impact than TV customers. He said minimum-volume commitments in mobile can mitigate or delay the effect on Dolby, and noted that some customers are eliminating lower-end product lines. Park said the effect depends on customers’ responses and “is not necessarily a 1 for 1 impact on Dolby.”
For Q4, Park cited the video distribution program, Dolby Atmos in cars, wearables and deal timing as contributors to the revenue outlook.
Guidance
Dolby narrowed its FY2026 revenue outlook to $1.41 billion to $1.44 billion while keeping the midpoint unchanged, CEO Kevin Yeaman said. CFO Robert Park put expected non-GAAP earnings per share at $4.25 to $4.40, compared with the prior $4.30 to $4.45 range, citing higher tax expense from discrete items in Q3. Park also expected approximately 100-basis-points of annual non-GAAP operating margin improvement, compared with the prior range between 50-basis-points to 100-basis-points.
