Latest quarter
AGCO reported third-quarter revenue of $2.3 billion, down from $2.5 billion a year earlier and below the consensus, even though both figures round to $2.3 billion. Its adjusted earnings per share of $1.05 exceeded the $0.87 consensus estimate. The company’s revenue also came in below its own quarterly guidance.
The filing attributed the sales decline primarily to lower volumes in Europe/Middle East and Latin America, particularly tractors. Higher volumes in North America and Asia/Pacific/Africa partly offset those declines. CFO Indira Agarwal said replacement-parts sales were $506 million in the quarter, up just over 1%, as farmers continued to prioritize maintenance while being more cautious about equipment investment.
AGCO’s gross margin declined to 25.0% from 26.1% a year earlier; the filing attributed the reduction primarily to lower production and higher manufacturing costs, including tariffs. Operating margin fell to 5.13% from 6.12%. The filing reported net income attributable to AGCO of $51.7 million, or $0.75 per diluted share, compared with $4.09 per share a year earlier; the prior-year quarter included a $251.9 million gain on an investment sale.
AGCO’s quarterly free cash flow was −$33.8 million, compared with $2.7 million a year earlier. Agarwal said the year-over-year change in cash flow through September reflected higher working-capital use.

What management said on the call
CEO Eric Hansotia said higher diesel and fertilizer costs, European drought, higher interest rates and commodity-price pressure had weakened farmer sentiment and equipment demand. He said AGCO was aligning production with retail demand and managing dealer inventories. Third-quarter production hours were approximately 19% lower year over year, with the largest reductions in Europe/Middle East and Latin America.
CFO Indira Agarwal said North American sales rose across nearly all equipment categories, with tractors and parts contributing to the increase. She said AGCO had gained share in North American high-horsepower and mid-range tractors and in Germany, despite a contracting German market. Agarwal attributed farmers’ decisions to factors including the company’s brands, technology, on-farm service and warranty.
On margins, Agarwal said lower sales and production in Europe/Middle East and Latin America reduced factory absorption. Hansotia said cost actions, pricing and certain tariff refunds helped offset that effect. For the fourth quarter, Agarwal expected higher European production after the summer shutdown to improve factory absorption, while cost-saving initiatives would help offset pressure in Latin America.
Asked about Latin American dealer inventory, Agarwal said months of supply had risen from 3.5 months at the end of the second quarter to just under five months at the end of the third, against a three-month target. She said the forward retail outlook had deteriorated quickly, while the number of machines in dealer inventory rose only modestly. She also said the reduction of aged non-tractor inventory had helped third-quarter pricing by reducing targeted discounts.
Agarwal said North America’s early order program was approximately high teens, 20% better than a year earlier. Hansotia cautioned that the program covers seasonal products and may indicate direction rather than the magnitude of changes in the broader market. He also said PTx technology can be added to existing mixed fleets, while AGCO continues investing in precision agriculture and automation. Agarwal said AGCO was not providing 2027 guidance while it worked through its planning process.
Guidance
